  • Actually my TC came with XT60 connections and I ordered the XT60 to T connectors adapters from motion so I could use Admiral batteries with the T connectors.

My TC came with XT60 connectors. I had a chat with Wayne at MRC via the Internet and he assured me that it comes with the XT60 even though I read in the Q/A section that was replied to by MRC that it came with the T-connections. Farm Flier says his did also. Now I'm confused. Was there a choice I missed while placing the order? It would just be easier for me to have the T-connection.

I put the adapters on the plane battery connections and leave them there that way they're no trouble. Apparently on the latter shipment they changed to the XT60 plug.

        • Hmm, they must have changed what type of connector it comes with now. Could be that a lot of the packs that guys are using for this come equipped with the XT60. I too have an adapter, but anything I fly that takes 4S or less and comes with XT60 automatically gets changed to T-connectors. I hate using adapters, just another failure point.

          • Thanks Farmflyer and crxmanpat. It makes sense to me now, and I agree with Pat. I really don't want another failure point. All my 4S packs and Planes use the T connector. I'll find someone to solder on the T's and eliminate the XT-60.

            • I bit the bullet and ordered a F7F Tigercat and I really like the looks of this twin propeller RC. Not sure when I will be able to fly it since it raining pretty much everyday in Washington state right now. Oh well.

              • Took the Tigercat out today for her maiden. The mains kept getting caught on the inboard door so i remedied that by stretching the springs in the center slightly to allow the gear to go farther into the cavity before pulling the doors shut. So far it seems to be working well with no negative tendencies.

1st Flight i had the top 3600 all the way forward which was way too far and ended up having to trim pretty much 100% to keep her from nosing over. Gear was stuck down because i had the cable polarity backwards... so used to having the orange forward not aft... lesson learned. super bouncy on the landing but i'm pretty sure that was me. Had about 4 minutes

2nd Flight I moved the top 3600 flush with the forward edge of the hatch which it seemed to like. Set pitch sub trim and zero'd out the pitch trim She flew great, very little trimming but since it was on the same battery pack I didnt do more than 2 circuits. Landing was less bouncy.

3rd Flight same battery set up, great takeoff, she lifted herself off and required no additional trimming. Landing was less bouncy again. Probably getting the hang of it.

Overall I'm super impressed with the way she flew. I didn't do anything crazy since my B-hole was already puckered to the point i probably could've squeezed out a diamond. I need to work on my landing and definitely balance out the props and get more batteries. I think i'm going to get 4200's and see how she does on those.

Hope you all are having a wonderful thanksgiving!

                -Reggie

                • Sounds good Reggie, that's where I run my 3600's as well. As stated before, I experimented around with the flap to elevator mix and found that at half flap, she didn't need it and at full I mixed in some elevator which balanced her out perfectly. Just remember, control your decent with throttle while keeping the fuselage level. Give her a touch of nose up elevator just before touch down and she'll settle in like the lady she is.

                  • XT-60 connectors replaced by T connectors, control throws set per instructions with the exception of down elevator mix ( went with crxmanpat's recommendations). Balanced with Admiral 3000's. the only thing left is to balance the props.
Hopefully we get a decent day here soon to take it out for the maiden. I was surprised how fast and easy this plane was to build! Motion RC and Flightline did an outstanding job! Thank you to all the people on this thread for all the information with set up and advice with flying the TC. You've helped me tremendously with this and the P-38!

Hey CB, that was before we refinished the runway as well. That was pre Nefi when I had her up for the first couple of times. I believe that was the first landing with the full flap/elevator mix properly installed.
She's awaiting some upgrades this winter;)

                            • I ran into a problem with the retracts... just normal wear and tear really. But I thought I'd share in case anyone else will see a similar issue.

About a month ago I had noticed that when retracting, the main gear would "stutter" as it came up. But they did come up OK. So anyway, last weekend I made a normal landing (full flaps, nice and easy) and the left main gear folded up upon touchdown in the grass. It looked pretty cool actually, except the prop blades didn't bend back like the real one would! One of the gear doors came off, but there was no other damage. Didn't even break a prop.

So upon inspection I found that I could move the main gear into the retracted position by hand, back and forth, it wouldn't lock and of course it's not normal to be able to move it by hand like that. Very strange.

I didn't discover what was going on until after I got it home and disassembled the retract. I found that the retract unit's plastic case had cracked open. All the mechanics inside were completely OK. The broken case allowed the metal trunnion to "move around" past the screw. The crack in the case was not visible during my first inspection because it's black and it didn't open up unless it was under pressure.

Understanding that these units have to absorb a lot of stress and shock during normal landings, I don't consider that this is a big problem. The replacement retract is only $15. (Yaaaay MRC) If it cost $40 then I would expect it to last longer, so I'm very happy with the service that the unit provided (I had a lot of flights this summer). I just thought others might like to be aware, if you notice something goofy going on you may have a hairline stress crack in the retract's plastic casing.

I haven't checked the other one yet but I'm going to replace both of them.

Here's some AIRPLANE PORN to distract.
