  • Flap positions would depend on radio. If the other flight line planes are any indication I'm sure like a -6° elevator mix would be in order. I don't use mixing on any of my planes, however with my health going like it is I may have to start using mixing as I'm not sure if I'll be able to keep on top of flap floating like I'm use to doing.

    • Ryan had some ' interesting' moments with the flaps until he put them on a switch rather than the roll dial. Now, I'm not sure if he programmed it to the manual, but I'm assuming he did. Real Spits had one position, they were either up or down, no half flap. What I observed with Ryan's was that once assigned to a switch, first position dumped full flaps and a bit of elevator mix, second gave you more elevator mix. I'm sure Ryan can clarify this as he was the man n the sticks.

      • There is a mix for flap and elevator. It's an up mix. There is a nose down tendency with flaps so the manual calls for an up mix.

Keep in mind nose down isn't a bad thing So long as it's not too much.

Set flaps to a switch. Slowed down or roll dial is not preferred and sometimes can initiate an asymmetrical flap deployment. My flaps are set to one position but I have a two position mix. One with less elevator up mix than the other with a little more. If you have too much up you will have a wallowing flirting with the stall type of approach. The key is to have enough up mix to keep from sinking too fast while still having a nice predictable glide slope.

She's super forgiving regardless. The manual is a great starting point.

        • Ryan's been holding out on us. Here's his clipped wing LF.IXc mod with his personal fuselage codes...:)

Hope you don't mind me using one of your file photos...? :Smug:

(Disclaimer, this is not a real plane. It's a Photoshop job.)

Its having the speaker, pointed and sealed against the foam, but being allowed to vibrate (spring up an down) that is the trick. If you glue/mount the tt25 speaker in such a manner that it can not vibrate(spring up an down) you will get a flat sound that has very little tone change if any. You really want openings to allow that sound to migrate out. I never ever could get a good sound in the FMS P-47, and i toyed with the Corsair but with somewhat of the same result. The 1700 mm Mustang you have the aft cowling door that actually has a servo linking it with the flaps. The trick is locating two speakers as close to that door as you can. Thats how I can get the loud sound out of it. Without those doors its muffled up inside the fuse. I regret not actually trying to mount two speakers all the way back aft where the openings were at on the 47. Once I go with a sound system, I am not concerned about speed and performance. At that point, with me, its all about scale. So, I really should not have been concerned with adding weight for CG. What I am thinking, is the radiators would allow all that sound to come out, the speaker being firmly glued against the foam provides the resonance, and I could probably get as good, or even better performance from two speakers on the wings in the radiators than I could with four in the fuse. Assuming the radiators would cover the speakers. Kind of a roll of the dice. Either way, I ordered the spit, and will look it over in great detail to decide how best to proceed.
              Thanks Alpha!

I learned a trick with the TT 25 speakers that has worked very well for me for both better sound and installation. My speakers would occasionally come unglued from the fuse surface due to the curved surface of the mounting position in the plane against the flat speaker particularly with the more stiff foam planes being made these days. I started gluing the speaker to a small softer piece of foam from an old part or shipping box shaving it down to size and width that would mold to the shape of the fuse or final mounting position. This would allow the speaker to vibrate more for better sound and the speaker foam glued to the plane foam has never failed. Ever since I installed my first sound system in an electric plane I cannot build a plane now without a sound system. I always get great comments at the field about the realistic sound of the plane. I'm looking forward to getting this Spit in my hanger.

I could see how that would work. I just started using gorilla glue and let it expand and fill in the gaps left by curves.
