Freewing 90mm F-22 Raptor - Official Thread

        Agreed, if MRC does not carry a certain item and that if i need to order right away, Raymond is a good source, hes quick to respond to any request and ships faster than most suppliers in China. Fmsmodel is also good as well direct ship

          Visva11, the doors are formed from Worbla Thermoplastic (their white type) that goes very soft and pliable when placed in near boiling water. I placed the cut to size shapes over the openings and they conformed to the compound curvatures and then held these shapes after cooling. The hinges are all Dubro nylon ( the pinned type). Here's a photo of the servo location.

                          WIll use a 4000uF bypass capacitor to rectify any output BEC conflicts using the multiple BEC method via 2s 1300mah pack mentioned in my earlier posts to prevent any plausible chance of bec failure due to high voltage step down to 5V powering the rx.

                          a 7 Channel Lemon RX with satellite (always include a satellite with spectrum DSMX, as pockets of failures will occur in various regions depending on where you fly) or re-badged

                          After doing some research focusing on 6s only for the sake of not having to do additional investment on more 4s packs, and keeping the weight down.

                          gonna go with the freewing 6s high speed setup for the various reason below:

                          1) direct drop in non hassle tinkering (no foam removal or custom motor foot print to allocation fit)
                          2) FMS housing will require foam removal,
                          3) Freewing 1835KV 4068 Inrunner is physically bigger Volume wise than the FMS 1900KV 3546 outrunner, at slightly lower KV to compensate for the pitchier freewing 12 blade impeller
                          4) the fms impeller seems to have a less pitchier grade than that of a freewing at higher KV but smaller stator/motor and therefore less thrust.
                          5) the Freewing impeller is pithier than the FMS at a slightly significant lower KV, and since its a inrunner I can be sure to set low timing to maximize the efficiency for this power setup.

                            Tom, I’ll post some more on it once I get a chance to work on it a bit more. I had to completely remove the plastic retract mount and shift it aft to where the blue box is mounted. I’m in the process of bluiding some frame out of plywood the support the retract mount. Still in awe of your doors as well! Will be saving a few of your posts for reference when I get there.

                              Going with the 8s setup bone stock. Felt like i just took a round trip ticket around the world....

                                  • All, I finally maiden-ed my 8s F-22 two weeks ago - amazing flying plane! I like the 8s setup as it has plenty of power and still a wide flight envelope. The takeoff roll-out is similar to my 6s 90mm F-16 which is quite long and was a surprise - it must be due to the extra weight of the 8s EDF and batteries. For those that are interest, I used the AR636 Spektrum receiver (my favorite) and after some experimentation have settled on the following gyro gains for rock-solid handling:

                                    Roll: 70%
                                    Pitch: 40% (recommend a lower pitch gain so you can perform snap rolls better)
                                    Yaw: 60%
                                    Priority: 160

                                    Note: I setup throws in the receiver (not the transmitter) to match the manual exactly for each surface.

                                    It was a good day with 10+ flights on it. This plane really needs a gyro in my opinion as it gets twitchy with a bit of wind.

                                      looks like the 3546 1900kv motor is 14 pole outrunner

                                      instead of low timing i would set it to high timing to get maximum performance.

                                      If you want to be conservative with power you can also choose to set it to low timing and save some amps, with slightly reduced performance on the high end. (difficult to distinguish just a bit less oooomph)


                                      General rule of thumb for higher rpm inrunners OR low pole count high RPM outrunners go low timing by default

                                        I have a few of those RXs and like them. I have never had any issues with Spektrum. Also, in my opinion, the gyro feels better than any others I use, even the HobbyEagle A3S3. I have my raptor set up on 12 channels with the A3S3 but I actually just found a deal and bought a Spektrum AR7350, it’s literally in my mailbox. I’m going to swap it out today and add a bunch of telemetry sensors, GPS, altimeter, current, amps and RPM. I’m fairly new to using telemetry but I think it’s definitely worth it. Especially when you get the flight pack sensor setup to work as a “fuel gauge”. I had 3 636’s before I activated the built in sensors that it has equipped. I sold a AR9350 before I had the programming knowledge I have now and regret it...

                                          Agree, Spektrum gyros are the best in my opinion - I use them on all my airplanes. The documentation is horrible but once you figure out what this RX does and how to program it correctly it is worth the money. Also easy to fine tune in the field without getting inside the fuselage to turn screws etc...
