Anyone have a good suggestion for a more realistic BA pilot (bust only would be fine) that would be a perfect fit? I can paint the stock pilot's visor chrome and the suit BA blue and maybe add some details but they don't wear oxygen masks. Any help would be appreciated! If it's nice and scale I will have Akuma Zeto paint him up for me.

I can’t recall ever destroying a plane on maiden day. It was my time 🤔. First flight And landing was great. Second one disaster. New fuse and a few plastic parts and it will fly again.

So, what do you do when you start to run out of space for that next new plane? You do a "double decker hanger upper".



Not quite finished yet but I wanted a place to store it once it's done. Weather is pretty bad and won't be able to fly it for a week, maybe more. Still got the decals to do and balance it with the batteries I plan to use. Comparing this one to my old "OZ" one, I can say right away that the new version is a lot better in quality, design and execution. All control surfaces are much nicer and those giant flaps will come in handy. Battery compartment is huge compared to the old one. The "blue box" does make for a much tidier assembly. The old one is powered by the inrunner fan/motor from the 90mm Yak 130 and it needs it, as well as the thrust vectoring to get it to rotate off grass. Foam quality is great and the gear doors are a marvel by comparison.

That’s quite a shame! I was visiting Apollo Field the week before the jet event a couple of weeks ago. What a great place to fly. However, I did notice all of the airplanes flying low overhead and setting up for landing approach. I wondered how the field operated all of this time with the low flying aircraft. Just figured all was well with the relationship between the field and the local airport.

If they move to a 250 foot ceiling then all of those huge turbines won’t be as fun to fly, I wouldn’t think.

I met met a young hot-shot turbine pilot out there named Koko, I believe was his name? Everyone says he’s the best pilot out there. Really wants to see fly his turbine F-16, but he was just ground testing a new turbine he had just replaced.

I cant see a turbine of that size flying at only 250 ft or less. I hope this all gets worked out. Too much history and huge numbers of pilots at that field to just dissolve it all.

The field is great, no doubt, and there is some of the largest variety of aircraft in one place. That makes it rather unique, along with its history.

Yep, I definitely know the pilot you speak of and he is indeed an amazing pilot with an incredible turbine F-16. He flies precise and with confidence, and a super nice guy as well.

We received some news today about Apollo and its potential for reopening, but I'm awaiting more news and specifics. There is some information on their website, but it's vague, and there is likely more to the restrictions within the LOA than is stated on the clubs website. There could be an event at Apollo this weekend to honor a great man who has done a lot in and for the RC community, and it would be fantastic to go to it if the FAA does reopen the flying field.

It would be great to have you come by again and fly there if/when it reopens! If you do, let us know so we can all meet up.

Man CAT, that is a bummer to have to come to that point as I know you have been looking forward to this release. If it ever happened that I couldn't fly jets I think I would get into RC subs instead. I don't think the FAA would have a problem with that.

Thanks Steve! It was and is definitely tough, since the F-18 is one of my all time favorite jets and waiting for one that's this well engineered seemed like an eternity. It was rough cancelling, but I'm hoping the hopeful news regarding Apollo potentially reopening will allow me to reorder, so I can enjoy this jet as many are. I'm really enjoying the pictures and video of yours and others who are flying theirs. If all goes well, I'll have to order one as soon as I can. I still have yet to meet many people on this forum, but someday we will have to fly together.

Bummer !!! However, I can use that tail area of yours for making the Airbrake for this one. I plan on making a Cast of that area for use in producing a nice Fiberglass Airbrake Panel for the Jet. I'll get them done and get you a couple for your assistance with this endeavor. PM me your thoughts on this. Cheers !!

Oh man I am sorry to see that. What happened? Well I can relate.

My maiden didn't go so well. :Angry:

Took off, everything looked great, a bit windy but nothing major at all. So trimming was a challenge but seemed to be fairly stable for the most part, just needed some roll trim. Flew on low rates...Seemed much too touchy for my taste on low rates so I was about to bring her in when suddenly over the tree line I lost complete radio control. She was going into a left bank and suddenly just violently snapped and started the death spiral...Initially no inputs would do anything but finally she reacted again and I was able to get her nose up and tried to pull her out but she went below the tree line and that was that with that.

She went down in an area filled with tall evergreen trees and also a neighborhood. I heard a smack that sounded like a building or pavement (or tree?)...I walked into the woods and jostled my sticks but didn't hear anything. I drove back to the area where the neighborhoods were but a lot of them are on private roads and didn't hear or see anything. Luckily my buddy was there and he walked back with me to the woods again and this time we got close to one of the homes and sure enough we heard the throttle power. We were able to triangulate it and he got a fix on the house using his GPS so we drove right to it.

Tucked back in a desolate cul-de-sac surrounded by forest laid my F-18 flat on its belly right in the middle of someone's long driveway looking nearly pristine save for the starboard elevator stab that was cock-eyed. I was so thankful that it didn't hit their house or car or worse. I picked it up and brought it back to the school where we could do a post-crash analysis. The elevator clevis had snapped clean off but that could have been due to the impact, the servo itself was still working fine. Everything else was still functioning normally. All the leads were still plugged in to the blue box and receiver.

I flew with an Admiral RX600 without a satellite. I didn't worry too much about not having a satellite as I planned to keep her close - relatively - for the maiden. That mindset may have bit me.

The sudden loss of control made me think a brown out occurred. Either that or a control surface went haywire, but I was able to regain control, unfortunately too late before going below the tree line and out of sight. The receiver's light was still solid when we looked at it. No flashing light to signify an obvious loss of signal but I am not sure if this receiver has that function or not. In the end, it could have been much worse as I was fully anticipating either never finding it again or in many pieces. The nose gear got tweaked, and the front of the fuse was split on both sides and other than some scuff marks on the bottom of the fuse and nose, she is pretty much intact.

Still, I will be purchasing an ARF PLUS very soon as this is my all-time favorite jet and I have to have a pristine one to fly. ;)

Just bummed. One thing is for sure, I will definitely be using a different receiver WITH a satellite on the next maiden!
