Naw, you deserved it Jim. Way to go!Originally posted by Dlxpkg2000 View PostI received the award you would have got if you stayed....LOL "Best Foam Jet". I'm with you and others. The high cost of the original receiver is more than worth it compared to a $600. airplane and all the time that went into it. I'm sure the lemons are fine for lesser planes but let's be honest, they are knockoffs at best. It's also about supporting the companies, like Spectrum and MRC,that put out a quality product. As far as I'm concerned, on a plane I'm really invested in, why take a chance? If your boxers are in a bunch all the time because you skimped on your receivers it's bad for circulation.LOLBrad P.S. I guess it just comes down to personal preference.Originally posted by dahawk View PostI've used lemons in several planes. Okay but I'm convinced they don't like my Dx9. Lost a few that I had blamed on a Bermuda Triangle syndrome. For my high end planes like the A-10, I'm sticking with genuine Spectrum. That way, I remove some doubt.
Maybe just me...

Just curious, how much does a lemon receiver cost?
I have heard the AR636A receivers are not reliable. I know this first hand. I had a Prometheus biplane that flew great. Had about 7 flights on it and was coming in across the field for a high speed pass and it decided to roll inverted and dive straight into the ground. I had no control whatsoever. I understand that they are programed at the factory for the plane they put it in and you can not reprogram them like the AR636. I was going to send it back to Horizon and have them check it out but have not done so yet. I have a Carbon Z Cub and T-28 that I have not had an issue with yet. But I have not purchased anything from Horizon since. I have bought a Stinger 90, Avanti S, F-7 Tigercat, and an A-10 from MRC and have put AR636's in all of them and they seem to work fine. I am using a new Spektrum 8ch transmitter I purchased last year. The same transmitter used flying the Prometheus. A 6ch Spektrum receiver under 40 bucks seems like a good price to me...

Had to point out that your first part of your argument is that people try to claim that they lose planes due to a off brand receiver problem when it is operator error....yet in your next to last sentence you are claiming the same thing about name brand receivers.....Originally posted by xviper2 View PostIt's very hard to prove it was a radio problem that causes your loss. You can scream all you want. They may do right by you, but that's not going to be what happens to most people who try to claim a $400.00 plane due to a RX problem. Too many people out there who will try any excuse to hide dumb thumbs. If it gives you a good feeling to pay 3 to 4 times the price for a "genuine" product, then please do. Personally, I'd prefer to pay a fraction of that for a product that has a very good track record. In fact, I've had complete success with Lemons. I can't say the same for Spektrum. I've had 3 AR8000's and several AR636A's that have been garbage and lost me planes and no, I didn't try crying to Horizon to pay for new planes.

Yup. It's a wonderful world ain't it? It must just bust your gourd, don't it? Proof reading all the internet posts just to try and catch somebody's oddities must be a great past time. Congrats to you.Originally posted by Nucastle View Post

I'm talking about a "one off" or two off vs commonly reported cases. Was I arguing? Or was I citing examples and experiences? And did I say I cried and screamed at Horizon? Don't like it? Can't help you with that.

wow calm down dude....never said you complained or any of the above....but you DID say that the receiver cost you your plane when you were telling others that the same thing was improbable. Let's keep this A-10 friendly. I'm sure there is another forum for radio gear issues. Started to put wing tip strobes behind the clear len's just behind the position lights. Takes some work and will need to do some fill in. Started the right wing tip and hope to finish it tonight. Then the left wing. Must use a very sharp #11 blade.

This is my last post on this subject. I didn't say it was "improbable" or probable. I said it's hard to prove. I also said lots of people like to blame crashes on anything but "dumb thumbs", myself included. I've also had problems with HobbyKing radio gear. I won't buy those anymore either, even though they are cheap. Again, I can't prove it.Originally posted by Nucastle View Post

That is "FUNNY"...the name Lemon scared me away from them when they first arrived on the scene a few years ago. I had already previously lost too many planes with Orange receivers for me to try a name like Lemon.Originally posted by gravityworks View PostHa ha there really called lemons LOL I thought we were just calling them that cause they were knock offs.... lol I fly futaba and have used clone recivers on some park flyers no problem but not my big stuff... any body else gonna use telemetry on this a-10?? But on here most are saying they're pretty good. I may give it a try on one of my cheap planes just to check it out. I changed back over to Spektrum after I discovered the issue was the receiver (Yes, proven; no more lost planes after I switched back). However, I do still an Orange receiver in my old Sky Surfer. I've never even received one single flashing light on that one. Hmmm, go figure!
Peace of mind for me with Spektrum has worked out well so far with me. But I like hearing that Lemon has done well by others so far. I really enjoyed paying only $6-$10 per receiver for the Orange. It was painful to go back to paying the Spektrum prices, but I fly confidently.

I fly Lemons in about 15 of my planes and Spektrum in the other 10. The only receiver issue I've had was a brown out with Spektrum, never have had an issue with the Lemons. I've got a Lemon 7 channel in my A-10 and have confidence in it.
I've read enough reports of problems with Orange receivers combined with my disdain with Hobby King has kept me away from them.

I plan to put this one (with appropriate sat antenna) into my A-10 when it comes:Originally posted by gravityworks View PostHa ha there really called lemons LOL I thought we were just calling them that cause they were knock offs.... lol I fly futaba and have used clone recivers on some park flyers no problem but not my big stuff... any body else gonna use telemetry on this a-10?? $36.00US for a full range RX AND telemetry. What would it cost for a Spektrum RX and telemetry? I ain't laughing.
Only "westerners" laugh at something named "Lemon". It's not anything to do with the understanding of the product itself but rather, it's a local colloquialism or should I say "prejudice". It's also a lack of understanding of the Asian culture. "Lemon" is popularly used as a name because it is referencing the sweet fragrance of the lemon flower. It does not have the same meaning to eastern culture as what most westerners have. It's actually a symbol of something positive. Most people NOT in the know immediately call it a "knock off". I'm not going to get into the reality of this concept even though the manufacturer states they did not clone anything. For a better understanding of the product, go here. You will find that it was a non-partisan RC enthusiast from Australia that helped in the development of the product and the completion of the manual:

Happy Lemon user here, but I also use Spektrum receivers. I've had zero problems with any receiver using DSMX protocol. Used a Lemon 6 channel diversity receiver in my FW F-86, Spektrum 6 Channel AS3X receiver in my FW Mig-21 as I felt it would benefit me to have the stabilizer (on roll axis only) in that plane. I don't feel the need to use a stabilizer in the FW A-10, so probably a Lemon 6 channel diversity receiver with a satellite.
