  • Hey guys, Thought I'd offer some artwork for those of you that aren't planning on putting 3D figures in the bombardier/gunner nose position. When I built a HK B-17, I created this artwork. The scale pieces aren't necessarily to scale, but are saved at 150 dpi.

I'm already starting to get a rats nest. Maybe Just the retractable landing lights and some nav lights . Pics and vid to come soon, hopefully this weekend if I can get to the field..

Another test was absolutely superb: She fits inside my Ford Explorer without taking her apart. I'm stoked ! Just removed the magnetic nose so I wouldn't damage the machine gun . Perfect !

Can't wait to maiden this one. A lot of personal attachment to it.
dahawk, Any chance to get some pics of where and how you mounted the MrRC sound system.

      • Regarding the PC boards ... having soldered discrete components into PC boards for the first twenty years of my career, I would personally be more worried about pads that are not covered in solder, joints that look cold, or bridges between the pads/traces. I see none of that on my board or the boards pictured. I am not sure that what you are seeing is "corrosion"? It looks more like residue left by a solvent based liquid that they are perhaps using to try and clean up the boards after soldering.

        • You would have to get the corrosion off, then it would be a good idea to re-solder to replace the lost conductive material, then clean with electronics cleaner.

A problem is, there will potentially be corrosion under the components (if any) on the other side.

I'm unsure of the functions performed by that board. If its just acting as a bunch of Y harnesses, I'd go to the separate Y harnesses. Just eliminate the potential problem child.

I have the F-14 and have whittled down to where all the big circuit board is doing is handling retract sequencing and lights. Some more experimentation and I'll have it just doing lights.

          • Flawless maiden today, and one other flight. On the second flight I was already doing loops, rolls, hammerheads, and inverted flight. I'm getting 8 minutes with 30% left using Turnigy Graphene 4S 4000 45C packs.

Sure , will take pic tomorrow. Basically the 4.1 card goes on the floor under the bridge where the pc board is located. Installed Two TT-25’s opposing each other farthest forward in battery bay. The twin Admiral 4000’’s are paired on edge and fit nicely between the TT-25’s.

The Amp is aft of the 4.1 card also on the floor. The Bass speaker is on the floor behind the black cross member tube.

Man, it’s loud ! Ran it up in the Pitt area today and the guys were amazed. Always get a smirk from the gasser guys.

Have my Rx Velcro’ed to back side of the bridge. Worked out well especially because of the servo wire I have going to the canopy turret.

When I get around to the lights, I’ll use the FW Ver 3 card and mount it on the forward shelf.

So much that can be done to this plane. Look to weather her next week. Also incorporate the 3D printed turret and cockpit parts and do the retractable landing lights and nav lights.

Whew ! Maybe even maiden LOL

Lol blasphemous Pat ! The full scale only performed those maneuvers when it was crashing. Can’t wait to fly mine. We had 12-15kt crosswind today. Above my pay grade.

                Post some vid footage ?

That is exactly what I plan to do with mine. The crew better have their barf bags handy. :Silly:

                    • Received my 3d printed parts. Just need to trim and paint. Wish my Aunt was still around. She was a miniature paint artist. This is gonna be interesting. Still need to apply the back drop pics for cockpit and bombadier from TI and Brandenmoon.

Not a whole lot of color inside . Maybe a few different shades of gray? a couple of red pieces and some dots of white

                        • I got a chance to test the electronics. It all seems to work OK! I managed to pry off the tail turret too! Slow, steady pressure and it finally pulled the paint off.
My receiver is too wide to sit next to the connector board so I need to work that out.
If you guys would post a pic of your wiring it would be appreciated. I'm curious how everyone is doing theirs.

                            • I have some extra wiring going on due to the Mr. RC Sound card and amp.

The first picture on the left shows the Admiral 10ch rx with end pin mounted on the rear side of the foam bridge. I have the servo actuated canopy turret and this arrangement made it convenient for the servo plug.

The picture on the right shows the two Mr. RC Sound amp cards on the floor and the bass speaker mounted aft of the black spar tube.

The picture on the bottom shows the twin TT-25 transducers, sattelite rx, ubec, The Mr. RC Sound 4.1 card is mounted on the floor under the foam bridge.

Sorry, the lighting is pretty bad today. Hope this helps. I'm sure there are other options. This one works for me.

                              Cheers,

                              • I've been waiting for this for a while from you. Do you have a youtube channel? Maybe you could load up some sound clips of taxi/flight? I'd like to take on a project like this. I've always been fascinated with old bombers!

                                • Sure thing . I’ve got a strong personal connection to the Lib. Been waiting for a nice foam version for a long time. Dad was a crew chief with the 93rd bombardment group / 409th bomb squadron / 8th Air Force . “Ted’s Traveling Circus.” They were the first group over and were the most travelled.

My model is Tupelo Lass, a D version and Ploesti survivor.

Anyhoo, I’ll fire her up tomorrow and take a vid. I used the dual wasp multi engine P&W sound . Had her out at the field yesterday and the guys were amazed at how loud she was. The sound card brings her to life.

Working on the 3d printed parts and then will start weathering. Going to add some lighting per Brandenmoon’s SOP. Retractable landing lights and Nav lights. Probably won’t do the formation lights. She’ll stay a day time bomber Lol.

                                  • Here's my Witchcraft. Backdated to 100 missions. I screwed up my first mission marks and have a new set coming. That should finish her off. Then I just need to get some batteries for her.

                                    • Thanks Hawk. How about the wing/battery connector? Will you have them just go forward over everything?

                                      Comment

                                      • Yes, I have them coming over the bridge, laying over the batts and then curled back so they fit within the cavity of the canopy. The wires from the batteries are facing aft. With Mr. RC Sound, I had to get a couple of XT-60 pass through adaptors. as the esc connectors are XT-60.and my Admiral 4000's are also XT-60. Pretty sure MRC just has the Deans adaptors.

                                        Cheers,

                                        • I have used Anderson Power Pole connectors for about as long as they have been in existence, so everything I have uses them. This became no exception. I have changed the ESC leads over and included a female servo connector to plug in a UBEC. I will probably be using a Castle Creations BEC since I have a good history with them.

Plane has been re-painted to match the Worry Bird colors. A little more touch up on the paint and then applying graphics from Callie (what a super person). Hopefully this plane will inspire me to get going full steam on the 146" Don Smith B24 that has been on the bench for way too long.
