In most cases, making one's self "happy" (especially in RC) and keeping "the wife" happy are two opposing things. It's a hard balancing act unless you have a wife who understands and doesn't feel threatened by your hobby and doesn't feel you are taking up family finances for "dumb" things. If she can't understand, your attitude will have to change or you're headed for misery. If you have to ask, "How will I explain ................................. to the wife", I think there are other things you must ask and answer first.

Or in my case I can always combat my annual plane expense up against her annual coffee expense. It comes out as a wash AND at least I have something to show for mine! Aros, I just tell Tamms (She whose authority exceeds my rank) that the space for storing A/C is approximately 15 Cubic Feet on average per airframe, really equals 8 hours per day, 6 days a week, 52 weeks a year that I'm not standing next her saying things like, "I'm bored, want to go to the home store or do you want to slip into the bedroom?" Best, LB"I am having an extraordinary ordinary life."~Lucky B*st*rd~

I used to do something like that when I first started in this hobby. I bought a $1500.00 helicopter, so I also came home with a $1500.00 sewing machine for her. That was a losing proposition. I stopped. After 150 planes and over 20 helicopters, I just don't worry about it anymore. She's OK with all of it and she doesn't comment when a new toy arrives at the house. The house and cars are paid for, as are all the monthly bills and we have no kids at home. There are few money matters to argue about. She vacations wherever and whenever she wants, as do I and once in a while, we even go someplace together. She spends, I spend and never is an eyebrow lifted. Mind you, it took 40 years to get here but it all works for us. If it doesn't work for everyone, all that means is that they are at a different phase of life and haven't gotten there yet. Some will, some will never get there. We're all different.Originally posted by Aros.MotionRC View Post

ROTFLMAO! LOL ....and then she says, "why don't you go to the model airplane field or go out to the shop"...Originally posted by Elbee View PostAros, I just tell Tamms (She whose authority exceeds my rank) that the space for storing A/C is approximately 15 Cubic Feet on average per airframe, really equals 8 hours per day, 6 days a week, 52 weeks a year that I'm not standing next her saying things like, "I'm bored, want to go to the home store or do you want to slip into the bedroom?" I took up golf for about 6 years. She really hated that. Time and money.
I competed in 3D and hunted traditional archery for a few years. She wasn't keen on how much I was gone and my hunting adventures.
Played disc golf a few years. She was sort of OK with that as it was cheap but didn't like me being gone so much, again.
After moping around and getting on her nerves she accepted my life long modeling and shop time and I finally got her into her own hobby of quilting. Especially now that the kids are all out of the house! Life really does get better after 50!

I loved your mods Smoothie. Especially the filler cap, it looks awesome. Could you be able explain how you have done your filler cap buddy? ThanksOriginally posted by MrSmoothie View PostMy Corsair's "rollout" was this afternoon. I've spent several weeks doing my own new graphics, 3D cockpit, A.O.I. pilot (with added arms, hands, legs), fade oversprays (especially to simulate fabric covered areas), 3.5" Robart wheels and FMS Tigercat R-2800 engine cylinders combined with the kit center portion Many of the early birdcage corsairs had white bars added to the original "barless" stars, even in all four wing positions. #570 appears to have been one of them. Also used powered artist pastels to simulate dirt on the walkways, wing roots, grime around the filler cap (which is my hatch pull) and gun belt bays, all matte clear sprayed to fix.Tolga

Gents - You might want to be careful with the prop hub
Somehow I managed to damage my prop hub......one of my forward facing outer prop hub screws pulled through the plastic hub clamb shell. I think it will be OK as the prop is samminched between the two metal pieces and - the front hub is foitha supported by the prop nut. That bolt that pulled through is also clamping the prop blade so....hopefully it will hold until Motion gets more prop hubs in stock.

OK OK, A-26K Vietnam Nam camo with just National Insignia - I’ll have Callie make up the rest of the markings.
if I have one complaint about the FlightLine product, it’s the “decals.” Not up to Callie’s standards IMHO. My F7F’s markings didn’t work that well and my F8F way done in VNAF markings by Callie.
STILL YOU CANT BEAT THE FLIGHTLINE OFFERINGS!!!:Cool::Cool:

Yes indeed. I learned a long time ago my better half doesn't like surprises but what worked for me was to suggest we create a budget for my hobby that coincides with the amount of money she spends monthly on the "extras" she likes; (nails, pedicures, hair color, facials etc.). I let her set the amount as long as it's a level playing field and you know what?.... I've never exceeded my budget and always had plenty of money month over month to do whatever I want and/or need. The only challenge I have is space. She does get a bit annoyed that our third garage is packed with airplanes, supplies, spares and workbenches but hey, she seldom goes there anyway.LOLLOLLOL;)Originally posted by xviper View PostIn most cases, making one's self "happy" (especially in RC) and keeping "the wife" happy are two opposing things. u guy's have it all wrong. many, many, years ago, I invited my Harley buddies to join me at the bar, and I bought. then I had them bring me home. she said she wanted to try, they made sure she would not like it. while I put the receipt for thee booze on the table. she comes in after a half hour on a hard tail and a rough road, hair all messed up and sour, sees the 150 dollar receipt and me talking about what we will do tomorrow and she told me that I should stick w model planes. If I get a look I just say bill has been asking me to join them again, wants come with.

I used a piece of 6mm aluminum tubing for mine because all I had laying around was this little plain button head fastener with a small threaded shank. It fit into the tubing so I epoxied it in there, cut the tube to 47mm long, glued in another fastener at the opposite end that I’d cut the head from and ... wallaaa, one sliding pull pin.
I used an aircraft dimple washer on top but a regular washer will suffice if you even want one. Also added plywood and a lower washer under the lid.
When I make holes in foam, this is how I do it...
Decide the hole size and get a drill bit that exact size.
Mark the hole location with a marker.
For any hole under 1/4 inch, I use a piece of 1/16 inch piano wire.
Larger holes require larger wire.
Heat the wire up with a small butane torch.
Melt the hole slightly smaller than the required diameter.
Immediately take the shank end of the drill bit and shove it through the hole. This will compress the melted foam into a hard layer while properly sizing the hole.
No more ragged ripped holes...
Practice on some old parts until your proficient...!

It has right thrust. It helps counter the torque on take off and other situations.... You can see it is 1-2 degrees in your pic... I always built that into warbirds, along with down thrust, but on the aerobatics, it is all 0 0 0. Zero on the thrust, zero on the wing and zero on the horizontal stab....

Yes, I remember this too... I guess I did not notice this angle in the MRC build video or from any of the others building this Corsair.
