Just an extra to the conversation above. .. from an auto painter painting his hobby foam planes... I paint all my planes with acrylic.. however not out of rattle cans. I use my work spray gun... So I'm mixing my own amount of thinners.. (less than a rattle can). Which needs to b thinner(more thinners). To simply come out of the can. .with its lower pressure... That's why more coats slowly applied rattle can works better.. I talk to the paint reps. The other reason cans r thinner.. thinners is cheaper than the colour.. to make as example. 100 ml of can paint. They gota make money 2.. half size spray guns r good(bit bigger than an airbrush). U will use more paint. But won't eat or fry the foam.. one last thing to consider is ground coats.... Colors like red or yellow.. with no lead now. Cover white in one or 2 light coats... Dark blue etc. Over say white. Put a light coat of black or dark grey first.. try these things. U will be happy U did..
There is only one reason it has thinners at all.... To get it outa the gun. So less is more. Have fun. And as lb. Stated. Warm is your friend
What are some epo-safe paints that will create a polished aluminum like finish?
The response gives suggestions and tips and polishing products that may get you to the polished aluminum look you want for the P-51. One interesting tip is to paint a base black layer before the metallic top coat goes on.
I live in SC and I believe that there are quiet a few modelers from southern (read "very hot") states that are/would be interested in this amazing P-51. That said, our main problem would be of course gatoring with all those olive drab surfaces. Has MRC considered or will consider a unpainted or aluminum colored version so that those of us who want to paint their model (or not) will have a friendlier gatoring wise model?
As an example, Lt. Colonel John D. Landers flew two airframes that were painted in 6 (!) different versions of "Beautiful Big Doll". I plan on painting mine as the 6th version with yellow nose. I am pretty sure that this will not gator even in 100F days.
Even down under my brother and I had numerous cox 049 control line plastic models. Mostly crashed of course was fun
Yup, the ole spin, dizzy, wobble, hit the deck scenario? A buddy who flew the big boy control line stuff taught me, in my early 20's by that time, to not stare at the plane too much or will get vertigo, dizzy, etc. Said to focus on different objects whilst spinning around, danged if didn't work. Never got dizzy or fell down again so got back in to control line pretty heavy. Also taught me some tips and tricks especially for the smaller engines and never had a running issue again, of course been away from C/L flying for so long have forgotten.
Best Christmas was probably 77, maybe 78. Folks got me a Testors P-51D and P-40, Grandma got me the black Goring Albatros, and aunt got me a Cox Cessna. The Testors Albatros is a literal scale masterpiece. Wished they would've kept going with the Dr.1 and SPAD they teased everyone with on the card back...jerks.lol My dad would never allow me to do RC back then, he saw it pretty much as just watching money fly away and getting stuck in a tree. Didnt' get in to RC until was 19 yrs old stationed in Guam.
Still can't decide if going to do Missouri Armada or maybe Roberson's/Weaver's Passion Wagon. Got the drop actuators in last week from China. Did Motion actually get them in and just sell out quick anyone know? Or is it just like as often is when parts are expected but not in yet and they put them up on the site then mark them ie. out of stock, sold out etc... I had been debating the E-Flite 1500mm but glad got this one instead. So far.
Did you fly with the Guam Aeromodelers club up towards the Commsta? I was very active there.
Motion hasn't received their parts container yet.
On the mag. CommSta between NavSta and Agana? I went to a small "field" up past Agana on the way to Andersen. You of course hit that hobby shop south of Agana, man that was a pretty cool shop. Spent fair share of my E-4 pay there LOL. Couple years ago did a virtual walkaround of hotel road and watched a couple drivearounds on YT, man looks completely foreign now. A guy stationed there in the late 90's told me if went back wouldn't recognize anything. Would like to go back with the wife, is where we met (she's Japanese), in the Dai Ichi hotel disco..LOL.
The field was between Agana and Anderson on the back road, near two lovers. Yes to the hobby shop, Billy. And a small one that near the NAS that an ex Marine pilot had. He was very big into gliders. I forget his name, probably remember in 15 minutes.
I was watching Fat Guy RC last night and a couple things of note I was curious if you agree with...
1) He said he felt the flap/elevator mix was not correct. He said with the up elevator mix it ballooned on him so he basically felt no mix was fine. To note, one commenter said it could be due to excessive speed, so if you are flying at the proper speed for those flap settings it shouldn't balloon. Thoughts?
2) He felt the recommended elevator throws were not enough so he moved both low/high rates to 115%. Do you agree?
3) Rudder seems like a lot of throw and could be a preference thing. I prefer small throws on low rates and generous on high (especially for taxi needs).
Otherwise, it sounds pretty unanimous. This is one sweet flying warbird. Very forgiving and gentle even on takeoffs and landings. She certainly looks the part. I can't wait to maiden.

Yeah! Gotta be the same one. We've probably laid eyes on each other at least ha. IIRC would only go on Sundays when we did an Andersen exchange run. Never flew there, only spectated. Always with friends who weren't in to the hobby and got bored fairly quick. Too far from base to trust getting "dropped off" and more importantly, "picked up"..

Hi Aros,
The CG can influence handling. I fly with an Admiral 6000 positioned so she balances on the CG mark AND throws by the book AND on high rate setting AND 75% throttle cruise.
1) The elevator is maybe 1 mm down from neutral with zero flaps.
2) The flap-elevator mix was eventually reduced to be slightly less than per the manual, but definitely in the direction stated in the manual. When I put down 1/2 flaps at 75% throttle, she does not balloon or dive.
3) On low rate, she could use more crispness. Setting high rates (adjusted per the manual) for me is spot on.
Initially, set her up by the manual and you won’t go wrong. Then you can tweak. Maiden on low rate, but you will soon find yourself using high rate all the time.
