All the painting was done with my Badger 175 airbrush using the large tip and needle. Paint thinned using Future floor polish (100% clear acrylic). Sprays well and dries flat. The white was sprayed first and it was just some flat white model primer from a rattle can.Originally posted by theoldALFER View PostHiflyer,
Are you brushing the bade coat HD paint?

Sorry for being a little off topic but I don't see a specific thread covering a P38 Lightning. MRC has a FlightLine P38 Lightning (Pacific Silver) that looks very nice. Anyone have experience with this bird or is there a better engineered and detailed P38 out there? If there's a thread that covers this let me know and I'll move my question there. THX - Grover54

Hey G54, I've got one and they are great.....just small. Wish they were the same scale at least as the Corsair but they fly great and look good too. Lots of mods available as well.Originally posted by Grover54 View PostSorry for being a little off topic but I don't see a specific thread covering a P38 Lightning. Look at the Left Wing and Right Wing you will see a rectangular outline for the black stripes. Check other photos for all their locationsOriginally posted by Spectra52 View PostAnybody know what the long black strips on the graphics are used for on the flightline f4u birdcage

I'm tempted to pick this plane up, I recently got back into the sport after flying many balsa wood planes back in the late 90's , i have countless hours or realflight logged and must say, i don't own many foam planes. (just a small park flyer) this would be my 2nd foam/electric plane, since the times have changed since the 90's theres alot more electric options out there, How does this fly compared to it's gas powered counterparts? just curious before I pull the trigger. Would anyone have any feedback?

Yes, the times have changed. We live in a really great time with "scale" ARF's at very reasonable prices. even 10 years ago foam models were still a novelty. These foam models have lighter wing loadings, a lot more scale fidelity and are way cheaper than gas or nitro powered models and fly very well. They are not as "ding" resistant but easily repaired and they sure are fun! The best part is it takes about 10 minutes to put one together and you're ready for the field with a pretty good looking model right out of the box.Originally posted by sfmadmax View PostI'm tempted to pick this plane up, I recently got back into the sport after flying many balsa wood planes back in the late 90's , i have countless hours or realflight logged and must say, i don't own many foam planes. Did Spectre mean the 2" x 9.5" strips or the sheet of black 1/8" wide strips. The decal placement diagrams show the large black wing strips but no mention of those 1/8 wide strips -- wing mounted cooler fins ? In fact the whole decal set seems very sparse compared to other F/L models, Am sure that Callie can supply much of any additional nomenclature that anyone may need.

FlightLine warbirds are an outstanding line of quality low cost airframes coupled with the best support around, including these boards, as members here are priceless in knowledge and willingness to help each other. This bird flies on a 6 cell battery that requires an adequate charging system for the batteries. I’m not sure where you are in that respect. You’ll need something along these lines to adequately charge the required battery. https://www.motionrc.com/collections...-ac-dc-charger
I own many plywood n balsa aircraft, all electric now, up to 33 lbs in weight with 50 volt 150 amp power systems and I’ll take the instantaneous power electric provides any day. Love my foam birds equally as much!

I watched quite a few videos online on the plane. I do have another question, is the charger you linked above something for charging the batteries overnight? Is there a quick charge solution for when you're at the field? Granted that lessens the life of the batteries but gets you more opportunities to get into the air I would imagine. Do many of you have at least 2 batteries?
Just trying to get some ideas for my first big purchase, I already have a spektrum dx8 radio , so good there I imagine. I live in new england so there is lots of snow now :) and a local flying club not to far from me. I was thinking about purchasing this sucker and at least painting it up a bit for a few weeks before flying. I like to build the scale 1/35th dioramas so could weather this pretty nicely :P
Thanks for helping out, so glad to meet nice people and good feedback!

Max,
Read everything you can on proper use of Lipo batteries! It’s of the utmost importance so you do not experience a fire. Never go to sleep while charging a Lipo battery and always monitor them within reason while charging! The charger that’s listed will charge your 6s battery in about 20-40 minutes depending on charge amps used. Don’t waste money on a low amp charger. Where I fly we have no power source so, most of us have portable generators we use to run the battery chargers. I own ten 6s batteries, mostly 8000mAh. Four are old beaters as they are a lil puffed from using them in EDF’s, two are perfect and four are new. I own 30 more Lipo’s of varying smaller sizes. Typically I just charge at the field and cycle from one battery to the next and let them cool off a bit when necessary.
The only down side here is it’s very easy to get addicted to FL warbirds as they are the best foam birds around. So, beware!
One last word on anything in life, other than women, but especially this hobby...!
