Yes, there is not enough room for the scissor to be on the front side - unfortunately.

Then again, the full size has scissors on both sides, so neither option is any more or less scale than the other. Having the scissor on the backside works fine for me.

finally committing to some of my cockpit upgrade parts. Gave the parts a light sanding and then glued the pieces together with acetone since I am using ABS. I was worried that the HUD was going to be crooked, but the parts meshed in nicely and after wicking in the acetone it lined up nicely.

I gave it two coats of rustoleum filler primer and I think it should be good enough for paint now. I could always give it another light sanding but I figure it should be ok.

                Awesome yet again DD.

Had a small setback on my A-10, seems I have a rudder servo that's borked. Ordered new one, but assume this will involve some extension work. The stock rudder servo has a really long lead (550x2 + 100 = 1200mm) while the spare part is listed with 550 only. Oh well, a minor issue, but a bit frustrating when there is so much else I need to spend time on

In addition to RC, I’m heavily invested in high-power model rocketry and display pyrotechnics (fireworks). My motto is “It’s important to have more than one hobby, because having just one hobby is an obsession.”

Ever thought about mounting a couple of those rockets on the hog and firing them in flight? I'm sure that would be frowned upon by the AMA but just wondering. Set them on a launch rail on each wing with a remote igniter and you've got yourself an awesome launch platform. Not to be used at a sanctioned event of coarse but it would still be super cool on the home field.

                        Not sure how long ago...

Firing Estes rockets and dropping firecrackers used to be allowed.
2 incidents caused AMA to make a rule prohibiting them.

1: a control line model fired its rockets off and due to mistiming pulling the line that fired them v the delay in firing, they launched into the spectators instead of out over the empty field on the other side of the circle. Relatively minor injuries resulted. (and a lawsuit)

2: an RC model fired off its rockets straight into a dry bush and caused a major fire.

Actually there is an exception to the prohibition for Airshow Demonstration Team members practicing for an airshow and while performing.
With assorted specific precautions listed for prevention of repeating the incidents.

You CAN launch a rocket powered controlled model (EG X-1, X-15, scale or non-scale aircraft) 2nd pilot controls the rocket plane after drop.

You can use air to do a simulated rocket launch with flour or other powder to simulate the smoke. Of course the model will quickly overtake the un-powered missile, but it does give a way to launch one.

If you can come up with something with no pyrotechnic (no fire or sparks) then it isn't against the AMA rules.

FAA hasn't replicated this prohibition (yet), so its not illegal, just no AMA insurance coverage for the flight if you launch an unguided model rocket from your RC aircraft.

Sure, it's not illegal. But if you're an AMA member then you've agreed to abide by the AMA safety code, which prohibits launching rocket-powered projectiles. True, you can "do what you want" but you ought to consider honoring the code, since its all about doing the right thing. Same reason why you don't blow through stop signs in a car, just because there's no cop watching you.

If you don't agree with this then maybe you shouldn't be with the AMA. Just sayin.

                              Could be done.

You could get cheap CO2 pellet pistol or paintball gun, gut it for parts, and use that's valves to control missile launches by CO2 power.

I've been flying long enough that I did rockets using "bottle rockets" and firecracker drops before it wasn't allowed.

At 8 yrs old I would glue firecrackers to 5 cent chuck gliders, lite a long fuse and have it blow the wings off in flight.

At some point I will have to try it out. AMA doesn't really do me any good as a field owner. If there is ever a claim at my field, they let my homeowners insurance take the hit and they are conveniently in second place. When I found that out from my agent, that was the end of the AMA for me. As a flyer on a sanctioned field, that would be different of coarse. I miss the old Sportflyer days. Their insurance was much better IMHO. Sorry for the sacrilage but it's true.

I can safely say that the new mains oleos do absolutely diddly squat to stop the bounce landings LOL I'm using the original front nose gear and got a real bouncer on my last flight/landing which typically broke the pin in the trunion which means I need to repair my GAU 8.
I'm not moaning as I prefer the look of them but they don't work as well as the T.I mod which does stop the bounce. I'm more annoyed that the pin snapped as if it just bent, the plane wouldn't be damaged.
I've figured I just need to really concentrate on those perfect approaches and touch downs, or it'll bite!!
