Thanks Tim. This scheme is going to look really good on your A-10 when done.

Thanks, I am too as I ordered an ARF+ as well. I still want my Black Snakes A-10. I have some 80mm fans kicking around from previous birds I can drop in it. Going to just fly it mostly stock and have a blast!

        • Looked great RC, I was watching with breathless anticipation for the landing, knowing how challenging that was going to be on a short runway, great job !

          • Thanks Dan. Our runway is kinda short for some EDF's. At 270' you really have to be wise about what you fly off of it and I am always nervous to try something big and heavy like this for the first time there but I needed to get the maiden in and didn't really have many other options so I went for it and it worked out well. Flying other EDF's off it has also somewhat forced me to hone my landing skills as well but it is still a struggle. I am glad I cut the flight short to give myself enough opportunity to make the landing attempts I needed to get it down safely. The A-10 flies incredibly well even at 16 lbs which is testimony to how well it is engineered.

Are they all waterslide or is just the nose art waterslide?

She's one impressive airplane. The build probably took a little over an hour but I'm still doing the decals on day 2. Have not programmed her yet.

Anthony, not sure I'll get any flight time before your WB's over Texas event next weekend. Out of town Weds-Friday. Build yours ?
Dave, I haven't even had the chance to take mine out of the box yet. Hopefully building tonight while watching the NBA game. I don't think I'll have the chance to get her ready before th WB event either. Want to get a few flights on her first, but like me you, work may be in the way.

Let me know if you'll have her out and ready to fly at your field before you leave for Fl. I'll try to join you out there.

              • I hear you, I'm still sorting out the Avanti landings. I get into that porpoising mode where she's acting like a bucking bronco. I watch all the videos and guys grease them in no problem, so it something I'm doing wrong, I think I'm not raising the nose soon enough or at all to help bleed off speed as the last landing, she started in on the bucking so I held back elevator and she settled in. I thought to myself,"last flight before Nefi so I can get the boys to educate me. Sure helped with warbird landings last year and this bird is so much fun in the air that I reallywant her around for a long time.

                • On final full flaps, hold 1/4 throttle or slightly more, hold in elevator and leave it. Use throttle only to adjust flight to landing. Otherwise pilot induced occilation. Hope this helps. Works for me every time.

                  • Thanks Tim, as I said, being used to warbirds, trike gear is something new. Got it, hold in elevator while controling height with throttle.

                    • Bingo :). Holding the elevator stick pressure is key. Most of the bucking bronco landings occur when the plane is slow (and sometimes not slow enough, but depends), the planes wheels touch the ground (sometimes not gently enough causing it to spring in the air) and the pilot completely relieves all elevator pressure as soon as wheels touch. Holding just enough of that back pressure on the elevator keeps a small amount of lift that gradually reduces as the airspeed continues to decrease while the plane is on the mains and nose gear, and lessens the chance of the jet oscillating up and down from rear to nose.

                      • I've got what hopefully is my LAST question about decals.

I went to apply the Blacksnakes nose decals and completely screwed it up to the point one of the two decals were destroyed. It tore itself apart under my heavy hands.

Does anyone have a technique or can point to a video that talks about applying over a compound curve? I'm going to reach out to our club to see if any members could assist that is more skilled than I am. If I cannot find anyone I'm thinking of leaving the nose plain because I cannot apply to decal.

Last question, does anyone had the nose Blacksnakes decals that they'd want to send me? I'm happy to share the other liveries with anyone since I'm not using them.

                        • What batteries are most of you guys running in this bird? This will be my first EDF, and want to make sure I have the right power when she gets here.

                            • 35C... Is that a high enough discharge rate for an EDF with out having to worry about puffing?

I'm planning to go with the FT scheme (backup plan, termites if I screw up the tigers) on mine so you are welcome to the Blacksnakes nose art from mine once it gets here.

Those packs will be just fine. I currently fly them in my F-14, F-15, and Me-262 no problem.

For this A-10 I'll also be using a pair of Turnigy Graphene 6S 5000 45C's.

I to have a set of decals as I will not use the livery graphics. Others I may use for the small stuff.

Yep, once you get it down it will be like riding a bike. I was showing off today with my buddy, chopping the power on final all the way to the ground. She's a floater. All I am doing at that point is managing my elevator inputs ever so slightly to keep the AOA close to parallel to the ground (too high and you will hit stall speed, too low and she's coming in too hot) with a nice soft flare at the very last moment for a perfect greaser.

I have the Black Snakes decal I can send you... just PM me. I look to cut it at places where it will overlap but provide the least visible mis-alignment i.e. sudden sharp changes to the lines, gaps or overlapping tapers which don't fit.
