See post #11 for the aileron horns and holes. If I remember correctly, the holes for the rudder and elevators are pre-drilled.

RC ML Congrats on the maiden. Looks like it went well.

    • The aileron horns are kind of funny. If they sit in that pocket, they don't extend directly over the hinge point...which is going to introduce some differential. unfortunately, I believe it's going to introduce the wrong differential (more down than up) <thinking out loud>...I wonder if it's designed that way to offset the angle of the servo...so if your aileron servo arm is 90 degrees to the servo case...(which is not perpendicular to the hinge line)...then maybe the dual offsets cancel each other? Do you think BH thought this much about the design? Only one way to find out. :-)
(yes, these are thing things I ponder)

My hinges are epoxied in and my control horn is mounted & this is what I'm getting. On the aileron I am measuring 22mm down travel & 30mm up travel.

        • Thanks! What length of servo arm are you using?

My servo's haven't arrived yet. So I can't say for sure. I'm waiting till they get here so I can fit them in and make sure I get a good fitting length aluminum / metal arm that will provide all the travel needed. As soon as I have them in hand (probably next week) I'll get some measurements and let you know exactly what arms I'll be using.

            • Ok, so that 22mm down and 30mm up is just the aileron and how far it move total with nothing connected?

              • My brief Maiden report:

Taxiing straight is good , but turning is wide , maybe i expanded the Little coils on the rudder to much .

Taking off was perfect , on high rate for Security reason. But now i fly on low rate and even that is enough .

Just needed a little up trimming.

Flying straight , a little nose heavy , but i prefere this .

Have +_ 450 gr nose weight. And i have to put the batteries 2cm from the firewall. I will measure the real cg with this set up .

Full power , keeps going up , speed is fast .

But what a Engine noise , just like a real fighter plane . Maybe it is the propeller , but it is like a real plane, you can hear it a little bit on the YouTube film .

Landing is something else , the landing speed is very high . You need some space.

Maybe this will get better if i can come closer to the critical landing speed .

The wheels need real bearings to get rid of the sometimes ugly noise of the wheels .

My flight time with 6000mah is -+6 min with 30% left .

Overall , i love it . The looks , the feel ,....And that sound .....

I need to thank twowingtj You gave a lot of helpfull information and it made my first flite so easy , the Gilmore was dialed in perfect . After 10 seconds it felt like i flew this plane for months .

Beautiful model and, while short, a very lovely flight. Thanks for sharing.

She did appear a bit hot on landing to me. I wondered if this was your choice given it was the first flight and you didn't wish to take any chances. Also wondered why you didn't try to get an idea of the stall speed at say two mistakes high. During a maiden, I always try and simulate an approach at altitude to get an idea as of behaviour or bad tendencies.

                  Looking forward to other videos.

                  • djmoose that is correct. No linkage or servo hooked up. The measurements were just the movement of the aileron. I don't suspect it will change much with the linkage but I'll report back soon as I have servos installed so I can check / test things.thing

I contacted motion about this and they say it's no problem. But a short wing tube doesn't really inspire confidence. So if anyone can tell me the length of what they received that would be great. I'm curious does yours match the manual described length / size or is it shorter or longer etc...

                          Thanks.

                          • RC ML Nice flight.

The sound these birds make is part of the fun of flying it. From what I understand, it comes from the tips of the large diameter prop going supersonic at high RPM.

                            • RC ML thanks. I see there seems to be some inconsistency in the wing tube size. However even though mine is slightly shorter it seems to fit the wings and fuse perfectly. Seems odd but it works.

                              • So there are hard stops at the end of the wing tube sleeve (3rd rib) in the wings at about 204mm (I only measured one wing) I haven't opened up the sleeve holes on the fuse yet, but I'll measure that as well. It might make sense to then mark the tube so you know it's even on both sides when inserting the wings. (if your tube is shorter)

Maybe some caution here...shorter wing tubes won't reach the 3rd rib of the wing (where the sleeve ends and where the hard stop is)...so we might be missing out on some of that strength / reinforcement.

VERY nice flight. I could see evidence of you being more comfortable with the Gilmore. The Touch-&-Gos and landing demonstrate what appears to be good slow flight characteristics. The sound is really sweet,

I am sold on this model. Can't believe I didn't pull the trigger when Motion had them in stock.
