  • What receiver are you guys planing on using (spektrum)?

    Comment

    • I use Graupner, so I put a GR-18L (9-ch) in mine. I put the gyro on Ch 7 and I'd like to pull the nose steering off the board and put it on Ch 8 so I can adjust the steering without having to adjust the rudders. I'll do that after the maiden tomorrow.

Thank-you crxmanpat! That worked even better. 🙏

          AR8020T

Has built-in altitude and flight pack voltage telemetry but no gyro. About $90

I plan on using this Spektrum AR9020 with satellite receivers. Trying to stay away from AS3X since the B-2 already has the gyro Click image for larger version

            • Perhaps it is overkill and the instructions don’t call for it, but since I will likely be removing the outer wing panels often for transportation, I have installed wire harness connector protectors on the wing wiring harnesses using the protectors designed for a 4S Li-Po battery pack; I don’t like pulling directly on the wires. (see photos). • Out for delivery \o/

I'm going with a sepktrum telemetry receiver and an srxl2 remote.

Those protectors look like a great idea all around.

                • I received my B-2 yesterday, I have not started setting it up yet but I do have a question. Maybe it’s been answered before and if it has I am sorry for asking again. Is the gyro setup to accept S-BUS out of the box, or will it require the programming card to enable it ?

Shouldn’t ELEVATOR red go to the center pin?

When I plug it up and bind the RX, it starts out with normally open clam shells. But, when the gyro locks up… the left clams go fully open and right clams go fully closed.

If I disconnect A, E, R from RX, the clams stay normally partially open after the gyro locks up.

Gyro light is blinking blue with A, E, R not connected to RX which makes sense

                    Thanks!

Edit: I had a spare connector. Wired the plane’s elevator to the new connected red wire. Now the clams stay normal when the gyro locks up, but I have no E, R, or A function. Gyro stays blue flashing.

I only have 6 RX function slots and a 7th for connecting the BEC to RX. So, I have the plane’s MODE connector open.

                    @GG,

Additional to your earlier solution of the problems above:
please connect your ‘MODE’ connector to a free slot in the receiver, and have this channel on a 2- or 3-way switch.

The gyro should show a continuous RED led (basic gain mode ‘on’).

It seems that your gyro is not in the correct mode, with it’s blinking blue led!

I take it that you saw my post about ignoring the colors of those single wire leads and treated them as they are "signal" leads? That being the case and it all checks out, I think that part of it is good. If you're still having problems with some bits not working or not working right, I suggest you go to the "board" and the gyro, yank each connector off and vigorously wiggle them back on. If there is a poor contact, this should "freshen" it up. I've done this in the past and it has resolved some of the problems. Since these boards tend to use common ground circuits, a totally unrelated plug may have influence on the ones that don't work.

                      • Here is a quick demonstration of the gyro/stabilization settings. We are all set up and ready for many flights tomorrow. We'll have the camera crew out as well.

Good point. A switch must be assigned to that channel (port) via "channel assign" menu or the gyro won't get any "commands".

                            • Standard PPM. You need a programmer to change it, see pg9 of the E52 instruction manual.

                              • Does anyone know if the drag brakes should be perfectly even with the wing when fully closed? Ours are not. Everything else is set up properly but our closed drag brake is pointing down.

                                • Yes...

Edit.. let me add that if both are down you are adding wash IN which is unstable. Both UP is wash OUT which is a little more stable. One up one down and you are adding roll... Make them even.

Very nice demo. Can you remind us again please ....................... what is "attitude hold"? I think James told us in the video but I forget and his video is long. "Basic gain" is "like" AS3X in Spektrum and "trainer mode" is "like" SAFE but a bit different.

Did you watch the MRC weekly live show yesterday? They made a very strong point that the drag rudders must line up with the wing TE.

See p.5 of the gyro manual for all of the different modes:
                                          https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/10...ion_Manual.pdf

                                          Attitude lock mode:
During the Attitude Lock Mode, the red LED flashes slowly. In this mode, the gyro will make continuous corrections to the rotation of each axis. Moving the stick will make the aircraft rotate at a certain speed around the corresponding axis of rotation, and once the stick is released, the aircraft will be locked at the current position immediately. This Mode is useful for certain types of multi-rotors, and 3D acrobatic fixed wing aircraft.
