In related news, we've added a Sniper ATP pod to the A-10's ordnance, so corresponding loadouts can be flown. As noted earlier by another member, the Pave Penny isn't used anymore by most operational units.

That will be my next test. How does the fuselage go together? Is there a front half? It is difficult to tell from any of the pictures. Thanks.

One can't but make a comparison between the Freewing, FMS and the old LX A-10. My LX is 1500mm span, with some upgraded 70mm EDFs. The stock ones were simply inadequate. That plane was a DOG and barely had enough power to get off the grass. With the newer, higher thrust system, it's much better.
Now, advance to the new Freewing and FMS. These things are 1700mm and at least the FMS could have a flying weight of over 4kg. That's a big, heavy airplane and it's only a twin 70mm. I just don't see it as being sufficiently powerful enough to fly with authority. The Freewing, on the other hand runs on 80mm and up-gradable to 90mm. The videos so far of the 80mm is quite impressive for such a large plane.
There's been quite a bit of talk about how each one came about and who did what first and who may have "copied". Doesn't matter. I think people are going to have to look carefully at the specs of both and the videos of both to decide which one will be the better one. Just knowing what a slug my LX was, I'd say Freewing has the better product BUT the cost may be a factor in that decision. FMS has announced a price reduction for theirs but even that price is not inconsequential.

Note, to add on to what Xviper2 said, the FMS 70mm A-10 is 1500mm wingspan, the LX 70mm A-10 is 1524mm wingspan, and the FW 80mm A-10 is 1700mm wingspan.

RCjetdude, that looked really good! Have you thought about Robarts small tank? #172 small pressure tank, safe fill of 110 psi. It's 6 1/2 long and 1 3/4 wide. Air cap at 14.5 cu.in Just wondering if this would replace the Co2 cartridges? just thinking outloud here. Your Idea is working, and I don't know what the psi of the Co2 cells are? Good work so far. looking forward to seeing this system putting the smoke behind the BBBBBBBBBBRRRRRRRRRRRTTT!

Hey Clearblue, I have considered such. While I have not tried it my thought is that unlike retracts which are exhausting small amounts of air from pistons, this system is being asked to exhaust a much larger amount of air and it might only be good for one shot. Clearly it would be cheaper to operate than the CO2 and would not undergo the possible freezing seen with CO2 either. A CO2 cartridge contains 16 or 20 grams of gas which is quite a lot at about 850 psig. From my early testing it seems to work well for short durations followed by a reasonable rest period. To simulate the gun sound of an A-10 on a card (which I am leaving to the experts at Mr. RCSound) I would envision a sound triggered by a switch and played for the duration of the sound, not how long the switch is active. That would typically be around 1 to 2 seconds perhaps. There are two parts to the sound as well so if I am thinking correctly I would want to turn on a switch to dispense the powder only long enough to match the sound system I might use that would also play the sound file after a slight delay. I am playing with different powders and mixtures and have had to order more CO2 cartridges. I have also ordered another solenoid valve to try out. They seem to be very limited as to fitting size and voltage. As such I am working with 1/8" NPT, 12V solenoids to keep my tubing ID up so as not to choke the powder/air flow down. I am also going to experiment with an agitator in the powder hopper based on what Alpha has said and I am still working on a more streamlined hopper design but it is coming along. My early attempts were learning experiences which taught me well. It is more difficult than I originally thought it would be but if it were easy then everyone would be doing it right? ;) Right now I wish I had a 3D printer... Thank you for the encouragement and suggestion.

The Panavia Tornado has been one of the top requested jets on the DCS forums for a while, and it is now currently in development with no release date.
So it seems like you might have a chance to fly a Tornado after all in the form of an actual simulator from the pilots cockpit. What better way is there to become familiar with its flight envelope than to train to fly it in a full blown combat simulator.
