  • Hey Sam, You might want to PM RCJetdude. He put some nice ones into that Green "Hawg" of his. Just got mine repaired, after one of those dreaded kangaroo hops, sent me into the tall grass, where I hit something solid, bounced back in to the air, then "lawn-darted" it. Nose-gear, and front half of fuse replaced. The hardest part, was replicating the paint job...Added new pilot, and office chair while I was at it. "Arctic Thunder" flies again....photo's soon.

    • I used the ones that Colt Pilot just installed but now I want some more for my A-4 and RMRC is OOS so I have set a reminder to notify me when they are BIS.

      • This weekend I was at the D.O.G.S. show at Dayton Ohio, sponsored by Horizon, which was an RC warbird meet held at the USAF museum. Very cool flying off a runway right next to the buildings which hold all those historic warbirds. I met another RC pilot with an A-10, Mr. Mike Pilkenton, and we flew our A-10's in formation together for the crowd. After 6pm we went to the museum, which stayed open after normal hours for the pilots. I also brought my F104 and Tigercat.
        Good times!

The first picture has a tiny sliver of a Turbine-powered Vampire which was flying at the event. In the second picture I managed to catch him landing.

Supposedly the museum's photographer took video of our flights, but I haven't seen it posted yet.

        • Flight #71 and the bounce finally got me. In short, gear induced or not, I felt I got her too slow and she dropped quickly before my intended flare, then bounced. I got on the throttle and pulled hard, but the nose gear made some hard contact before getting airborne safely. Did not break the shear pin, but put hairline cracks in the retract housing and bent the metal mounting plate.

Thankfully I bought an entire nose gear set up back in June after three of the six A-10s at the Jet Jam busted up the nose gear in some way shape or form.

I'll keep flying her, but can't help to think the shortage of replacement parts could ground my favorite flyer if I botch another landing.

          • Awesome lineup there Mudduck! I finally flew my A-10 this weekend with the modded Oleo struts. Flew great, no issues with the retract mounting and no bounce. Seemed to make the steering a bit more sensitive on takeoff though, I'll have to put some more expo on it. Will finally be putting my A-10 in for paint work and detailing soon!

            • Hi buddies, let me share that last sunday friend Keith and me did the maiden of our A10... what a beautitul model... really love this ship and how it flies... was a little nervous about bouncing issues on landing but it surprised me with a nice landing...actually for me it´s the best friendly performance of the scale models that I ever had... If you had flown before a DR1 triplane for sure will know more about bouncing issues...just let the Hog slow down the speed and wow...at least by now..maybe it´s the lucky of the beginner but really doesn´t think so...just to get used to this ship and land like the full size cousin..

Congrats on a successful maiden but don't get complacent, she will bounce on you...many have had over 20 flights before having a bounced landing.

                  • Hi there fellow A10 fliers...Has anyone had to order a new wing panel set yet for this jet? If so how did it come and how was the install of your current or new electronics. Had bad landing a wrecked a wing. Electronics still good but need a new wing. Input much appreciated

                    thanks

                    • Replacement wings should come without any electronics installed, at least that's the way it's been for all their other jets. Just take the electronics out of the bad wings and install in the new.

                      • Here She is, Ladies and Gents...."Arctic Thunder" is repaired, and ready for sorties. Everything in front of the wing was replaced, repaired, re-painted. Took forever to finally get parts....even got a new Pilot in there, with his new office throne. Couple of different decals, added the Nerf Whistles, re-painted her, and she' ready for this weekends upcoming event.

Outstanding job fixing it Jim. Very nice upgrade to the cockpit as well...I still have the green Euro camo Cool Cat intact. I did snap the nose gear strut pin on it but was fortunate in that the nose dug into some very soft mud at the edge of the new runway I was flying it off of. A lot of mess to clean up but no real structural damage other than cracked retract flanges. All better now thanks to the help of my good friend TIGRB. It is my special occasion flyer. ;) Once I flash the firmware on one of my Blacksnakes 90mm 6S ESC's I will be tearing up the skies destroying armored vehicles and supporting the troops once again.

                              • Great work Jim on the depot level repairs! Mine is getting some additional paint and dress up for the Fall Jet Classic in tow weeks. Wish you could nake it down as it will be a blast to fly with the turbines. Sean from Alabama is coming back up and we are going ot get some formation training in for some photo ops. I did see where he finally had the bucking horse landing come up but sounds like th edamame was isolated to the nose gear unit like was. A replacement nose retract and flatten out the metal plate and it was good.
ColtPilot, i will look back over your strobes to see if i can get something installed by the Jet Classic. For anyone interested, i have formation lights that look great in the dark!!!!! Im hoping to get some very late dusk flights in to highlight the lights! Hence my needing some strobes for better sighting.

Really good work. I was so happy to take mine out over the holiday weekend for the first time in nearly two months. Installed the new nose gear (not an easy task) and I am happy to report an uneventful flight and landing.

                                    • My JST connection for the strobes y'ed out of the fuse and used a separate 2s 1000mAh lipo to operate them. Didn't want to recut into the wing groove thus having to redo the combat stripes.

                                        Sam,

I actually repaired my retract by melting the plactic with my soldering iron...sealing the hairline cracks. Not sure it will hold, but will check it out after the next flight. Otherwise I'll replace it. Looking forward to that formation flying...Hogs always fly in pairs...and your mods.

BTW...Andy said the Roaring Top 6250s are back in stock. rcjetwerx.com
