    • Yeah, AS3X receivers.

The takeoff roll-out is similar to my 6s 90mm F-16 which is quite long and was a surprise - it must be due to the extra weight of the 8s EDF and batteries. For those that are interest, I used the AR636 Spektrum receiver (my favorite) and after some experimentation have settled on the following gyro gains for rock-solid handling:

        Roll: 70%
Pitch: 40% (recommend a lower pitch gain so you can perform snap rolls better)
        Yaw: 60%
        Priority: 160

Note: I setup throws in the receiver (not the transmitter) to match the manual exactly for each surface.

It was a good day with 10+ flights on it. This plane really needs a gyro in my opinion as it gets twitchy with a bit of wind.
Where did you find was a good spot to mount the AS3X? That's what I'm going to be running as well. Thanks for sharing your settings too!

Power using the Freewing 12 blade 6s setup 1835KV 4068 Inrunner.... this motor is much bigger at a less expensive KV....which means more thrust can be expected. However the FMS Fan should be much lighter, and with good reviews too.

WIll use a 4000uF bypass capacitor to rectify any output BEC conflicts using the multiple BEC method via 2s 1300mah pack mentioned in my earlier posts to prevent any plausible chance of bec failure due to high voltage step down to 5V powering the rx.

a 7 Channel Lemon RX with satellite (always include a satellite with spectrum DSMX, as pockets of failures will occur in various regions depending on where you fly) or re-badged

I used that EDF in the 90mm F-16 with a YEP 150a ESC. You could definitely notice the weight loss and gain in thrust in the first 10 seconds of flight. It jumps in the air with half the distance in takeoff roll

I haven’t installed my Spektrum RX in the raptor yet, but I built a small shelf in the front of the battery bay for the A3S3 that’s currently installed (replicated in blue on the pic) If it works, I will secure it below the battery tray where my current RX is installed. You can leave a 2-3” extension plugged into the bind/program slot and keep the female end taped somewhere above the battery tray so you can adjust the AS3X or re bind without having to remove it remove screws

See picture - I attached mine to the sidewall. There is a nice flat spot which is parallel to the long axis of the fuselage.

are you talking about the freewing fan? If so that is really good to hear!! glad you noticed a difference in weight lost. What are your comments comparing this setup to the 8s FW setup with the heavier inrunner motor at higher voltage?

according to RC castle product data the 8s fan puts out 5000 - 5200g thrust Versus 3900g with the 6s setup, thats quite a big gap noting the weight differences also........these numbers are approximate, wish there was some real data

                      • Put her together this evening...Easy build, she's a beaut! Now I just need this weather to cooperate. Winds are crazy this time of year where I live. I will fly bone stock and decide whether I want to put a gyro in it or not. Seems pretty stable without one from what I've seen from customer videos though?

No issues so far. These new blue boxes seem to work well, no cold solder problems like in a lot of Chinese manufactured boards.

                          • What glue do you guys use for those little rubberized pieces of material Freewing includes to help keep the battery in place? It's a bit problematic because the material is mesh-like and the glue can seep through.

Oh sorry... I should have been more specific. I have the FMS 12b outrunner 1900kv with a YEP 150a ESC. I have all of the motor/fan options you listed but I havent flown with them yet. The newer FW 12b 6s is in one of my F-15s to replace the Inrunner it came with. Also, I haven’t flown the FW 8s yet, it’s in my Raptor that was ordered an hour after the plane became available. I’ve been modifying it slowly, but I’m going to have to get it in the air soon. I have way too many projects going on. I’m adding slime lights, navy lights, 3D cockpit?upgrading the BEC, and swapping the receiver and gyro for AS3X. I ordered the centerburner the day I ordered the plane to beat the rush.

The F-16 had the older version 12 blade outrunner in it when I swapped it out for the FMS. It was a great upgrade for the stock 6s setup but I think anything is haha. I don’t think I have heard anyone complain about the FMS and YeP in any plane. The only issue is that the shroud is bigger than the Freewings so I had to remove foam to get it installed. It wasn’t that big of a deal though.
