Well, today I was able to test fly my new Flightline Spitfire 1600. I managed to get the build done in one afternoon/evening, but then the weather turned bad. At last today we had a warm sunny conditions with a light wind straight down the runway. Model was equipped with a Zippy compact 5800 6S 25c pack. With this pushed right forward the model balanced exactly at the recommended 90mm from LE. I had already taken on board the need to program in up elevator with flaps down and reduced the throw on the elevator a bit. The result:
Wow! what a great model. Just a couple of clicks of up elevator was needed and the model really grooved around the sky. Delightfully smooth and utterly believable on flyby as it has a real presence in the air and you can really slow it down if you want to with the flaps. Retracts worked perfectly. "Dirty" passes with flaps and retracts down looked really convincing.
Even on such a bright sunny day the lights were visible -must be really bright LEDs.
Landing was a breeze as the flap/elev mix I had dialed in was just perfect. The model dropped in really smoothly as I reduced the throttle and cutting the power just as the wheels touched gave a perfect landing. Timer was set for 6mins but I had 73% of battery left at the end of the flight. The motor/prop/ESC must be a really efficient set-up.
Second flight I upped the stopwatch timer to 8 mins. When I checked the pack at the end of the flight it still had 63% left. So 10 min flights should be a real possibility.
Overall, I am delighted with this model. It looks really authentic on the ground and in the air, has super flight characteristics - you can beat up the strip; fly enormous loops; yet slow it it right down and lands like a *****cat. What's not to like?
Thanks to all the folk who posted their thoughts, info and experience on this forum. Special mention to radfordc who helped with choice of lipo pack. It all really helped to get a hassle-free maiden flight. Looking forward to a lot more enjoyment with this model. Great work Flightline! Now we need a similar size Douglas Dauntless with flaps, dive brakes and working bomb-drop!Comment

Is it just me or does every Flightline airplane fly incredibly well!!?!
I now have three and they are to go to airplanes for ease of flying, not to take away from the FMS 1400 P-51's which are dreams to fly as well, but if Flightline ever does a P-51, look out FMS.
Now, we just need a Hurricane to go with the Spitfire........
Anyone remember when Revell came out with the plastic 1/32 Spitfire, P-40 and Me109F back on the 60's?? I bugged and bugged them and finally they came out with a 1/32 Hurricane to complete the Battle of Britain series. Undoubtedly there were others doing the same thing, but I like to think I had some push in the decision. Anyway, Alpha, how about a hybrid Hurricane, foam front and a kit-like build for the back portion of the fuse since it was actually formers and ribs on the real ones, just a thought......

The more I fly the Spitfire the more impressed I am. If 15 years ago you would have told me that I would someday buy a 63" wing span ARF Spitfire, highly detailed with retracts and flaps, electric powered, that could do every maneuver with grace and style in prototype fashion, and fly for 10 minutes I would have said "it will never happen!" But, it has happened and we get to have it now. Almost a miracle! Even the great sound of a Merlin engine is part of the experience now with the modern sound systems.Comment

Yes indeed, years ago I always wanted to get into model aviation, but just didn't know anything about it.. With the technology we have now with an electric foamy you can do mostly anything a gas powered plane can do with much more ease of not having to tinker on it trying to get it running smooth.Still Learning:DComment

I finally had the opportunity to fly my second Spitfire many times today.
Done as Bobby Gibbes livery, it’s so cool seeing that shark mouth fly over.
I modified the shark mouth to fit this airframe exactly and Callie has upgraded her set.
I did mod the rudder as the Mk VIII had the 25% larger version to handle the larger engine.
When first assembled in Australia, the real airframe had the tail painted white which was later painted over in foliage green when Gibbes took possession of it.
It flies really sweet.
